How Much CBD is Too Much to Take? A Helpful Dosage Guide

CBD use is on the rise around the globe. As the stigma on marijuana-related medicines decreases, more people realize the benefits of taking CBD. But because CBD products aren’t FDA regulated, it can be a bit difficult to figure out exactly how to take it, and how much to take.

Keep reading to find how much CBD you should be taking, and how much CBD is too much.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

There are no solid dosage rules when it comes to taking CBD. The amount you take depends on a few factors, including your weight, what you’re treating with CBD, and what form you’re ingesting the CBD in. This means people usually resort to experimentation to find the best dose for them.

The best way to figure out your dosage is by visiting a doctor. If a doctor has recommended CBD, they will likely tell you how much to start with. Some CBD products label recommended doses on their packaging, which can be a good place to start.

If you’re using CBD without a doctor’s recommendation the best tactic is to start low and increase over time. Start with an amount as low as 30-50 mg and see what it does for your symptoms. If you don’t find it satisfactory after a week, increase slowly until you hit that sweet spot.

Whether you’re taking CBD oil or CBD pills it’s important to keep track of the dosage, when you increase it, and its effects. This is the only surefire way to know what amount works for you.

How Much CBD Is Too Much?

It’s not really possible to take too much CBD. There’s no threat of overdose, and it won’t get you high like THC products. There are a few things to consider, though.

Some people who take too much CBD report diarrhea, fatigue, weight, and appetite changes. One study performed on mice showed that taking too much CBD could cause liver damage, much like other forms of medication.

If you’re taking any other medications you should consult your doctor about CBD. CBD products may not mesh well with your other medications which could increase the likelihood of adverse effects.

Generally speaking, 1,500 mg is considered a high dose. If you’re taking over 1,500 mg per day you could be at risk for the aforementioned side effects. Otherwise, you don’t have too much to worry about.

It’s also important to watch out for synthetic CBD products. Always purchase your CBD oil and products from trustable sources. Synthetic CBD can be dangerous even in low doses.

Always Medicate Responsibly

When it comes to something as new as CBD all the long-term effects and dosage rules haven’t been determined yet. This makes it all the more important to manage your dosage and ingest responsibly.

Start low and increase slowly, or ask your doctor for a recommendation. If you do that, you won’t have to worry about how much CBD is too much for you.
