First American Flag was made of Hemp

The Betsy Ross flag is an early design of the flag of the United States, popularly attributed to Betsy Ross, using the common motifs of alternating red-and-white striped field with five-pointed stars in a blue canton. The flag was designed during the American Revolution and features 13 stars to represent the original 13 colonies. It was made of Hemp.

Betsy Ross made the first flag of the United States of America out of the finest, strongest fiber available, hemp fabric. It is also said that the finest laces of the olden days were always made of hemp in preference to any other fiber. -Herndon, p.154.

Lets not forget, it was not just any string that connected Dr. Ben Franklin to the clouds above for his famous kite experiment, it was hemp. And he also loved wearing it.
